I always sharpened knives.
At ten, my father gave me my first Buck knife. It was a six-inch folder and much too valuable for a ten- year-old. However, my ownership of that knife was short-lived.
One evening that same week he came home from work to find me rubbing the Buck’s blade against the street curb. In my mind I was only doing exactly what he was doing in his chair most nights. Sharpening knives.
Needless to say, he took the knife away from me for several years. “Let’s start with something simpler.” he said. At that point he gave me a knock-off Swiss army knife to destroy.
Some of my favorite childhood memories of my father are of him sitting in his chair sharpening a knife. Come to think of it, I have that same memory of his father as well. So that’s it then… I’m at least a third- generation sharpener, and now I offer my services.
To you.
108 ways to sharpen a knife.
Over the years I learned why the concrete curb doesn’t work. I’ve owned just about every sharpening gadget there is and years ago got tired of the junk and the gimmicks. I am now and forever convinced that the old ways are the best ways, and will never stray away from anything newer than sandpaper again.
At CC Cutlery I only use wet round stones with cold water baths, wet flat stones, leather strops and buffalo hide for finishing. It’s a good way to sharpen. I will use a buffing machine for large areas of steel and on handles, but the old-world ways are otherwise here to stay for me.
A sharp knife is like poetry.
It cuts.
We’re ready for you.
I want to extend to you a warm welcome to my company and my services.
I am here and ready to make you love your knives all over again.
After all, a sharp knife is like poetry… it cuts.
